# Reflections on National Siblings Day

I’ve always believed that having a larger “home team” can make you a stronger individual. My mother, the middle child among ten siblings, exemplifies this strength by ensuring everyone has a meal. She fondly remembers that there was always a pot of beans simmering on the back burner of the stove.

As the eldest sibling and an introvert, the thought of being surrounded by so many people can trigger anxiety for me. Growing up with just three siblings—and now only two—has shaped my perspective on family dynamics.

This brings me to the concept of Sibling Day, established in 1995 by Claudia Evart. Like her, I have experienced profound loneliness with the loss of my baby brother, Cory Dwayne. It's comforting to know that others understand what I’m feeling. I cherish the memories of the joy he brought into my life, and I recognize that he was a crucial part of my home team, influencing how I interact with the world, with people named Cory, and with all those driven by ambition to face various personalities.
